Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has charged the Tinubu/Shettima administration to manage the fragile ethnic diversity of the country and maintain its non-negotiable unity by being fair to all and sundry.
Mimiko, who was the keynote speaker at the Change and Development Forum powered by the Dare Adeboye Foundation, stated this recently at the Redemption Camp, Mowe, Ogun State.
Themed “Good governance and accountability: Setting the agenda for Nigeria’s incoming administration,” was attended by stakeholders and students alike.
For the incoming administration, Mimiko said, “The greatest challenge of accountability before the incoming administration is uniting the nation. The process must start by being fair to its composite ethnic nationality as practicable as possible. The incoming administration must see to the management of this diversity as number one accountability.
“They must avoid 97%, 5% conundrum of the outgoing Buhari administration. If the nation is not united, we ain’t going nowhere. Deliberate effort must be made to make the public space more inclusive so that those who feel genuinely alienated can be brought back into the mainstream of our governance process.
“We must manage and confront our diversity. The ultimate management of diversity is to be fair and just to everybody. You must see this as your number one priority.”
The former governor posited that the incoming administration must be innovative, creative and protect local businesses and take as priority security of life and property.
He stated further, “Without security, we are talking about nothing. There is a consensus that a centralised policing system cannot secure Nigeria.
“Since all the major presidential candidates have ascribed the evolution of policing to the sub-sectional, the government should quickly ensure that they place state police among other measures in securing Nigeria,” he added.
“You must know the mechanisms available to you. That is where freedom of information comes in. It gives access to everybody to demand any information from any government agency.”
Speaking at the event, the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Mr Olatokunbo Talabi, who commended the Foundation on the timeliness of the theme of the event, noted that the state government has been transparent and accountable.
“As an administration, what we have done is that for any project, we call all stakeholders to give us a priority on the reparation of the road that is most important to them.”
Talabi, however, commended the Dare Adeboye Foundation for the timely gathering on governance and development of the nation.
The Chief Executive Officer, Dare Adeboye Foundation, Pastor Leke Adeboye said the organisation is committed to continue and deepen the legacy of Pastor Dare Adeboye, which also focuses on youth development, education, government and leadership, environment among others.
Leke said, “We are here today to celebrate his impact, honour his memory and continue the good works he had started which is aimed at touching lives, building the nation and advancing the kingdom of God.
“We have organised free training for more than 100 youth in web 3.0 skills blockchain and then NFT and cyber security, and trained about 100 youths in data science among others,” he outlined.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that The Dare Adeboye Foundation is a legacy and impact organisation created to immortalise Pastor Oluwadamilare Adeboye and to further his vision and deep commitment to impacting lives and communities all around Africa.
Pastor Dare Adeboye, 42, one of the sons of the RCCG General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, died in his sleep on May 4, 2021 in Eket, Akwa Ibom State.
According to the CEO, the foundation is poised to maintain the impactful works of Pastor Dare Adeboye in perpetuating his ideologies.
