Text: I Corinthians 13:11-15
“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.”
Every believer in Jesus Christ is expected to be busy for the master as soon as they have given their lives to Jesus.
The quality of the work God expects from His children and workers is very high. God does not just accept anything from just anyone, our God is a God of very high standards. For it is written:
2 Timothy 2:19 ” Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
In our focal text, the word of God made it clear that every such work by anyone and everyone will be tested by fire. Actually this text is a sort of fire conscious call to every Christian. IF YOU ARE NOT FIRE CONSCIOUS YOU ARE NOT FUTURE CONSCIOUS.
Let’s look at the passage together.
A. Every work that is not traceable to Jesus Christ is doomed for total destruction by fire. Anyone who thinks he is a worker for God who is not Jesus’ guided or instructed is demon directed. The excuses of peer pressure, superior pressure, denominational pressure will only lead to fueling the fire.
B. Kingdom works are classified into various groups such as:
…gold value
…silver value
…precious stones value
…wood value
…hay value..
…stubble value
Now all of the workers contributing these categories of work values are all working as far human beings are concerned. But in God’s reckoning they are gathering different materials that shall be tested by fire. WHAT SORT OF WORK ARE YOU DOING?
C. The revelation of the nature of every man’s work will be done by the supernatural fire of God not by any man.
If you are working to please man even when you know that God created all things for His pleasure according to Revelation 4:11 as follows:
‘Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”
Then you will do well to allign yourself with His counsel before it is too late.
It is not every work that will work for you in the last day, the type of work that does not glorify God but pampers the flesh will only prepare anyone addicted to it for losses by fire.
Beloved, every work of iniquity is doomed to be consumed by fire. Every work of the world and the flesh will not pass the rest of fire.
Now finally the worker himself will be rested by fire. (Malachi 3:3) O LORD GOD OF ALL FLESH.
O what shame is awaiting workers whose life time work will be consumed by fire.
O what a reward is awaiting those people whose work will pass the rest of fire.
Check the value of your work, are you a purely hedonistic worker, if nothing is in it for you, then you are not interested in any work, right?
Are you given to selling your God given gifts to highest bidder? Watch out, the test of fire is fast approaching. Losses are looming if care is not taken and a change of direction is effected.
Submit to Jesus if you have done so, confess and repent from every known sin.
