Acts 1:8, “And ye shall receive power, after the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witness unto me in Jerusalem, and in Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth”.
Power, is the ability or capacity to do something or act in a particular way. It is also the supply [a device] with mechanical or electrical energy. Power is a political or social authority or control, especially that exercised by the government.
Power is an inherent characteristic of God (Romans 1:20), it is the result of His nature.
Power is indeed a nature of God. As a child of God, you are expected to have His traits. Your attitude, character, and lifestyle should be like that of your Father. Even mortal men give birth to their own kind; a child’s skin, complexion, height, face, etc., often look like that of either or both parents such that one can easily trace you to your earthly father just by your looks.
We are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-28). God created us to be like Him here on earth, to have dominion on earth. Imagine the power bestowed on us as children of God; divinity enters humanity and acts in mortal form through the power of the immortal God.
Flowing in God’s power is every man’s dream and expectation. Every believer is expected to manifest in a dimension of power that can be traced to God. Flowing in His power is like walking in the realms of the immortals, a realm where divinity feasts with you on a daily basis. You interact and commune with the Spirit and it becomes your reality here on earth.
Many believers want this reality but they are not ready to pay the price for it. Today, we have believers who want the glory without wanting to identify with the pains that come before the glory; we want to see the power of Godmove when we pray or minister without knowing the requirement for the kind of power we desire.
To manifest the power of God, you need the word of God. To flow in God’s power, you must be a (wo)man who studies the scriptures (Hebrews 4:12). The Bible should be your reference point for every action. What is God saying per time? “Show me a man who studies the word and I will show you a man who knows the mind of God”.
The Bible is not a story book, it is a book that reveals the nature (power) of God. Any dimension you want to see is written in the Bible [(Matthew 24:35), “heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away”]. The weight of the word in you, determines the weight of power you command.
When Jesus the son of God was confronted by the devil, it was the word of God in Him that He used to conquer Satan. You would hear Him say ‘it is written’ because He had the word in Him. Child of God, that power you need, do you have enough word in you to confront the devil and the challenges that comes with it? The devil will make a mockery of you if you are empty of the word of God. Do not wait to be confronted before you look for the word; be word ready always.
The second requirement you need is prayer. Prayer is a means of communicating with God. Prayer is a believer’s ticket to traveling in the realms of the immortals. In prayer, you cross the horizontal line of confidence to the realm of the spirit, you intertwine with divinity. Your mortality is transformed and the spirit realm sees immortality instead of you. (Matthew 4:17, Mark 11:24), “whatever you desire”. This means our heart desire can come true only when we pray. That power you desire, the level of anointing you want to manifest, is achievable in the place of prayer. Even Jesus prayed. If you are too big to pray, then you will be too big to manifest the power of God. Instead of worrying over it, why not pray over it (Philippians 4:6-7).
You must also have the willingness to stay. This can also be called HUNGER. Your level of hunger for God is seen in your willingness to stay in His Presence seeking His face. Jesus told His disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of God (Holy Spirit). Even Jesus saw the importance of waiting, or else He would have asked them to go into the world and manifest. You can’t manifest what you don’t know or have. Your willingness to wait on the Lord, to seek His face and know Him, reveals your desperation and desire for power. To matter in this mortal realm, you must gain momentum in the spirit realm. It is in your place of hunger, that place of vulnerability, that you access the mercy seat of God. In the place of hunger, when you are waiting on God, you are saturated with the power of God. It is where you have a personal encounter of who God is. The disciples waited in the room long enough to be filled with the power. Even you can be filled with the same power (Romans 8:11).
The apostles after receiving the power in form of the Holy Spirit, did great and mighty things. The fearful, timid, discouraged disciples were the same people who preached the gospel and led people to Christ (Acts 2).
Looking at the life of Peter, the very one that denied Jesus, was bold enough to stand up in defence of the gospel (Acts 2:14-17).
When the power of God comes upon you, the first thing that is dealt with is fear. You cannot carry power and be fearful; that thing that seems undareable will be dared and conquered. Peter, one of the disciples who followed Jesus throughout his ministry, yet denied Jesus even after seeing the miracles, when the power came on him, he became fearless. He was the very first person that stood to defend the gospel when the people mocked them saying they were drunk. Imagine that kind of courage and confidence. Yes, it only happens when power rests on you.
As a child of God, you cannot be filled with his power and not flow. Flowing in His power is a compulsory compulsion once you’re filled. Shame and timidity are eliminated, you become a territorial commander here on earth. You begin to command results that are beyond your natural qualification.
The power of God in you is an activator of potentials, it is an amplifier of gifts and talents. You cannot be filled with this power of God and be looking shattered, battered, and devastated in life; you must always stand out. The power of God makes the difference in every man.
Child of God, power is not to be negotiated, it is a compulsory compulsion in a believer’s life. A necessary requirement in this Christian walk. Without power, the devil will question your identity. It is power that will answer to all the questions and challenges of life.
May God give you power to face the challenges and answer the questions of life. May the devil not mock God because of you. May God show up for you in Power when the need for power arises.
