The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Liberty Court, Lagos Province 35, has advocated for Christian full participation in political process in Nigeria.
This call was made during her political conference for 2023 with the theme, “Independence and Transparency of INEC – The Way Forward” held at Olatunji House – 299, Ikorodu Road, Idiroko, Maryland, Lagos.
The Keynote speaker, Pastor Femi Emmanuel, General Overseer of the Living spring Chapel, IntI with headquarters in Ibadan Oyo State, Nigeria, urged General Overseers, church founders and Bishops to encourage their members of their denominations to be involved in politics at the grassroots for political paradigm shift.
Convener of the conference, Pastor Adebayo Oseni took time to explain that the purpose of the yearly conference was to disabuse the mind of majority of the church members, and the youth demography that have been made to believe that politics is a dirty game.
Oseni was of the view that it is the right to deviate from this negative seed which has been sown three decades ago to the believers. He attributed the nation predicament to non-active participation of Christians in politics.
The pastor said the church has to be intentional about politics and governance. “ Enough of sitting in the bench, we have to encourage those who are interested in politics at the grassroots, the churches has to initiate Politics and Governance unit/ Department that will be handling political matters within the church.”
Referring to the book of Proverbs 29:2, that “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn”. He opined that when the believers, most especially the youth, are ready for the people of this nation to rejoice, the righteous will have to be ready to take power. “How will the righteous get to power without voters card when that majority of the people coming to the church are not interested in politics,” he queried.
Other speakers at the conference include, Honorable Dayo Isreal (APC National Youth Leader), Mr. Olubankole Wellington (Banky W) – A Musician, also an Actor – Two times contestant for a seat in the House of Representative and Barrister Liborous Oshoma (A Lawyer, Advocate for good Governance, human right crusader and Social affairs Analyst).
IMPACT is an annual Socio/Political Conference held in the month of July every year, with the aim of stirring, sensitizing and inspiring Christians and other non-active participants such as youths, women to actively participate in the Nigerian politics.
