In a stark reminder of the true goal of church leadership, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has cautioned church leaders not to be swept away by political bickering and forget about their primary objective which is making it to heaven.
The cleric stated this on Wednesday during a question and answer session at the RCCG American Convention 2024, monitored by The Beautiful Day Testimonial on the church YouTube.
Pastor. Adeboye addressed a question on the issue of in-fighting and church politics among senior and regular pastors, and used the opportunity to bring attention to the overarching goal of the church.
The question posed by a youth, read out by Pastor Leke Adeboye, was centered on the escalating tensions among pastors in the church and how the conflicts could be resolved to prevent discouragement among the next generation.
Responding, Pastor Adeboye said: “All we can do is to remind these church leaders that our number goal as a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, pastor or no pastor, is to make Heaven. If these people forget heaven and begin to play politics, it will be very sad that they are leaders on earth and will end up leaders in hell.
“We can only tell them the truth, but we can’t force it into their brain. We have seen church leaders forgetting their original goal because if I am going to heaven that is my number 1 goal and you are also going to heaven. I don’t see me fighting you, we will be partners in progress, but if one is going to heaven and the other one has deviated from the narrow path that is where the problem comes. All we can do is to remind them like am doing now which is why the theme for our annual world convention in Nigeria this year is “Heaven” because it looks like some people have lost focus of heaven.”
The General Overseer emphasized that democracy, with its political squabbles, is a worldly concept. He warned that those who block God’s rule in the church risk incurring His wrath: “If you become the gate of hell in his church, He will know how to deal with you.”
The man of God further said: “It does not profit a man if he gains all the whole world and loses his soul. The leaders are hearing me now, I know that America is the bedrock of democracy and I have said it all over again, God is not a democrat.
“Democracy is the government of the people by the people and for the people but you didn’t hear the word God in that and you will not find democracy in heaven because wherever there is democracy automatically there will be politics.
“If you don’t allow God to rule through you in the church, you will have God to deal with because He said I will build my church and the gate of hell will not prevail against it. So if you become the gate of hell in His church, he will know how to deal with you.”
The octogenarian Christian cleric closed his admonishment with a blunt reminder to errant church leaders. “Politicians will be politicians and they will pay the price at the right time.”
The American convention of the church is billed to be rounded off on Friday with a Holy Ghost Service.
