The Supreme Council of the Nigerian Books of Record (NBR) has inducted a Redeemed Christian Church of God cleric, Pastor Johnson Odesola into his fold on Sunday.
The induction was witnessed in Lagos by officials of the NBR and many Senior Pastors of RCCG were in attendance.
He was awarded a Fellow of the Nigerian Books of Record Research Centre. The plaque was signed by the Director of Studies, Prof Muhammed Usman and Director General, Prof David David.
The Director General, NBR, Prof David David said a nominee for the award must meet eligibility criteria before he can be considered.
The DG said, “Yes, there’s an eligibility criteria for the nominees in the NBR. But for clarity, I need to let you know that we know that there are a lot of Nigerians doing wonderful things. And there are also a lot of Nigerians that are also celebrating the Nigerian Books of Record. But a very few of them are picked from what we have, and are adopted. These are people that are positioned as a role model for the younger generation to look up to.
“So the criteria is basically those who have actually broken a specific record, who have made a particular record, who have contributed to humanity, who have contributed to nation building. Through their circle of influence, they have been able to impact knowledge. They have been able to impact their generation with their circle of environment, their circle of influence.”
Prof David said nominees are picked from various sectors of the economy and not only in the religious circle.
“We have chronicled great Nigerians from all sectors of the Nigerian economy. The religious sector is just one segment. You can look at the book, it’s a book of over 1,500 pages. So when you look at the segments for the religious sector, there are purely Nigerians who in their own environment have made impact. They have impacted lives. They have done something quite unique, different from what others have done.
“If you look at the religious sector, you have people in the likes of Pastor Adeboye, Pastor Kumuyi, Bishop David Oyedepo, Dr. Daniel Olukoya.”
Prof Odesola, a RCCG Continental 3 Overseer, is a prolific writer of more than 100 books are impacting and a lover of younger generation.
In his acceptance speech, Odesola posited, “Glory be to God in the highest, my creator and my sustainer. It is with great honor and humility that I stand before you today, tasked with the extraordinary privilege of expressing my deepest gratitude for being recognized as one of the “who’s who” in our beloved country Nigeria. To receive such acknowledgment is not just a testament to individual achievements but a reflection of the collective efforts and contributions that have shaped our society.
“First and foremost, I must extend my sincerest appreciation to the esteemed organizers and selectors of this prestigious recognition. Your discerning judgment and commitment to celebrating excellence have bestowed upon me an immense sense of pride and validation. Your dedication to highlighting the accomplishments of individuals across various fields is not only commendable but serves as a beacon of inspiration for future generations.”
Reacting to the recognition and induction of her husband, Pastor (Mrs.) Rachel Odesola said, “Every woman should promote peace because where there is no peace, the man will not have a settled mind. I know him as a stubborn achiever, whatever he wants to do, you cannot stop him. Even if he wants to read or write, if you present food to him, he will simply reply ‘not now’. So, a woman should understand her husband and support him.”
