Christianity is a relationship between God and man. It is neither a religion nor a cult-like obligation as many may believe. In time past, due to the level of literacy and insight into the bible, Christianity became synonymous with poverty. A mere declaration that a man has ‘been called by God’ is viewed as a call to a life of extreme poverty.
Thanks be to God for a new generation of believers whose eyes are opened to deeper mysteries of the bible about riches and prosperity. When David said, “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want,” in Psalms 23:1, he was confident that he would not lack any good thing. He also said that “the young lions do grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing” (Psalms 34:10). It is clear that poverty and Christianity are mutually exclusive unlike what many adherents have been made to believe.
One of the champions of a break-free from poverty generation of church leaders in the country is Pastor Paul Adefarasin, the prelate and Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church that has its headquarters in Lagos. He was born on 25th January, 1963, to a High Court Judge and a women’s rights activist, Joseph Adefarasin, who hailed from Ijebu-Ode in Ogun state, and Hilda Adefarasin, from Lagos state.
Through his church, House on the Rock, Adefarasin is positioning youths for the prolific move of God in the current century and beyond. Being youth oriented, it is a vibrant, multi-ethnic church with over 7,000 worshipers every week. The church has established branches in major cities across the country and all around the world, including: Abuja, Ireland, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.
Adefarasin teaches his congregation to believe in the power of God’s word to change lives and value the practical application of His word to make a difference in who they are and what they do. For Paul Adefarasin, believing and obeying God’s message lead to a discovery of real life and a hope for eternity. He teaches the youths to believe that the bible is the inspired infallible and inerrant Word of God that is the supreme and final authority in faith and practice.
Adefarasin is an author, motivator and conference speaker, and one of the most respected and sought-after ministers in Nigeria. He is well known for his strong and clear message on hope, healing and empowerment. His ability to transcend race, tribe and creed with his unique approach to ministry has led to the forging of many strategic relationships between the church and secular communities in the African continent.
Every year, since 2005, he has hosted The Experience, an annual interdenominational gospel worship concert with several hundreds of thousands of people in attendance from all over the world. The Experience is becoming the largest, free all-night gospel concert in Africa and the world. The concert features world renowned gospel music ministers. The likes of Sinach, Nathaniel Bassey, Don Moen, Donnie McClurkin, Travis Greene, Tope Alabi, Sammie Okposo and many others have been featured in the concert in the last 15 years.
His success as a minister of the word can be attributed to his submission to the directive of the Holy Spirit and access to mentoring from his spiritual father, Bishop T.D. Jakes.
Adefarasin attended St. Saviour’s School, Ikoyi, and Igbobi College, Yaba, both in Lagos state. He went further to study at the University of Miami, graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture. He returned to Nigeria after practicing his profession for a while in the States. He is married to Ifeanyi Adefarasin and they are blessed with three godly children.
