In order to reinforce adherence to JAMB policies and standards for tertiary education admissions, the Ogun State JAMB chapter and Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management (RECTEM) hosted an assembly of admission officers from Ogun State’s higher institutions.

The conference, held on Wednesday August 21 at RECTEM’s Multipurpose Hall on the Redemption City of God, provided an opportunity for communication and collaboration among the participating officers, with the primary objective of maintaining the integrity of the admissions process through compliance with JAMB’s policies and standards.

This move aimed to bring the national conversation on improving the Nigerian admissions process closer to the local community, thereby fostering greater engagement and facilitating practical solutions on a regional level.

Abdulhammed recognized that admission officers serve as key intermediaries in facilitating the admission of students and thus must adhere to the highest standards of professional conduct to eradicate any instances of admission foul-play.

The JAMB Coordinator said: “My motive of organizing this is because admission is the key to any institution; if admission is gotten right, every other thing will be right. The head of institution relies solely on the recommendation of the proposal of the admission officers and that’s why we have come together to compliment the effort of our chief executive Prof. Ishaq Oloyede who has been going round to ensure compliance. We have almost the highest number of institution in the country. So, it is our duty to ensure number 1 compliance to avoid any form of embarrassment at any level from any institution in other states.”

Rector of RECTEM Dr. Stella Mofunanya, on behalf of Pastor E. A. Adeboye and Pastor (Mrs.) Folu Adeboye, as well as in the name of the institution Governing council chairman, Pastor J. F. Odesola, offered her gratitude to JAMB for the opportunity to host the meeting. In her address, she underscored the importance of collective action and vigilance in ensuring that admissions to tertiary institutions are conducted fairly and effectively, particularly in light of declining enrollment rates across many schools. She asserted that the conventional ways of managing admissions can no longer be sustained and that a more conscientious, collaborative approach was needed to navigate the changing educational landscape.

In her words, “Doing admission right is our collective responsibility and I believe that the JAMB Coordinator of our beloved Ogun State could not wait any longer for this event to hold, especially in a critical time as this when the standard of education in our country has taken a southward moments and students enrolment process is no longer business as usual.”

Referencing Ecclesiastes 9:10, Dr. Stella Mofunanya exhorted the audience with a call to diligence and commitment to excellence noting that their individual effort will shape the future of the institution.

The Head of Matriculation and Monitoring Unit for JAMB in Ogun State, Mrs. Kafayat Ibiwoye noted the significant role played by admission officers in her address. She emphasized that admission officers, alongside the Registrar and the Vice-Chancellor or Rector, form the three key pillars of institutions of higher learning, with the admission officer wielding considerable influence in shaping policy decisions.

She stressed the critical role of the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) in streamlining the admissions process, emphasizing that it was incumbent upon admission officers to effectively utilize this communication platform.

Ibiwoye states, “What are the things that admission officers do? Provide some settings on CAPS system that will guide the operations and the admissions process, analyze student’s credentials to know if such student is eligible for admission, evaluate student’s applications to colleges, universities and polytechnics, propose students for admission, and explain admission process.”

The head of Matriculation, while elaborating on the critical duties of admission officers, highlighted the importance of unwavering commitment to established policies, irrespective of any external pressure or influence.

In an interview with Beautiful Day Testimonial at the event, Ogun State JAMB Coordinator extolled the virtues of JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, commending him for his unwavering efficiency and efficacy.

In his words, “There is no one word that can describe Professor Ishaq Oloyede because he is demonstrating efficiency in all ramification and this is a testimony to people at the grassroots level we are bound to sensitize and make aware of what is happening in the board. Ignorant can’t be an excuse in a bid to sanitize our educational system and to this effect, there will be improvement.”
