The Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management (RECTEM) has been recognized and presented with the award as outstanding entrepreneurship and innovative college in Nigeria by the National Youth/Students Enterprise Group (NASEG).

It is in recognition of the tremendous and outstanding contributions of the school towards the advancement of entrepreneurship of Nigeria, being a reliable and purposeful institution with passion for entrepreneurship development among Nigerian students.

The event took place in the school campus, Redemption Camp, Mowe, Ogun State on Wednesday.

In attendance were the school management and staff.

NASEG is the national umbrella body of students in tertiary institutions pursuing degree in Entrepreneurship. The association also represents youth who are entrepreneurship inclined in Nigeria.

Speaking, National President of NASEG, Comrade Abdulkareem Soetan said RECTEM was singled out for the award for its commitment and promotion of entrepreneurship and skill development.

Represented by National Vice President, Special Duties, NASEG, Comrade Oladimeji Ajibola, Soetan said: “In all ramifications, this honour is in recognition of the passion for youth and students developmental projects at all times, the concern for youth development and the nation at large.

“The leadership of National Youth and Students Enterprise Group (NASEG) in Nigeria has found a worthy entrepreneurship base College, worthy for all institutions in Nigeria to emulate; spiced with innovation and good management team that believe in youth capacity development and empowerment.”

The President further stated: “This College has proven beyond doubt that the destiny of Nigerian students is still very bright with skills acquisition. The College we are talking about is no other than Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management (RECTEM).

Soetan noted the honour bestowed on the private and faith-based institution was to seek for more support in “remodeling and rebranding the entrepreneurship face in Nigeria and Africa” through partnership with the students body.

Earlier, Director of Entrepreneurship, RECTEM, Dr Sunday Onjewu posited that the institution is following the directive of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and Federal Government policy to promote innovation and skill acquisition.

Onjewu said: “Following the directive of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Entrepreneurship as a discipline has been embraced and promoted in RECTEM.

“NBTE has directed that all universities must embrace entrepreneurship, so also is Polytechnics. The simple fact is that government is interested in developing our youth in the areas of science, technology and innovation, which is about job creation, wealth creation and job supply.

“Here in RECTEM, we don’t train students to be job seekers; we train them to go out and create wealth, job providers and not job seekers. In that line, in the Entrepreneurship Centre, we have 16 skills from which we ask our students to select those of their choices. By the grace of God, we have capacity among lecturers and HODs, who are also facilitators of these skills.”

He added that students must pass the course in both at the National Diploma and Higher Diploma level, adding that the institution also have vocational training designed as a skill impactment course for non-students.

According to him, it has 8 major skills for vocational training.

Responding to the award, Rector, RECTEM, Dr Stella Mofunaya dedicated the award to God and the proprietor of the school, the General Overseer, RCCG, Pastor Adeboye.

She said, “We want to dedicate this to God Almighty and to our parents in the Lord who have given us the spiritual support, moral support and financial support. It is because of them I can be here today standing.

She described the Executive Secretary, NBTE, Prof Idris Bugaje as an asset to Nigeria, who is passionate about entrepreneurship development in the country.

The fast growing and ambitious Polytechnic boasts of state-of-the-art technology in its possession.
