Circumstances can be described as challenges that one passes through in life. It can also be defined as the situation or condition under which actions and reactions produce outcomes. Better still, circumstances are what you are going through measured by the state of your mind towards happenings in your environment. Situations can be mild or severe, stormy or calm; it depends on your capacity to manage them.

It’s however inevitable for a living human being to feel the impact of the circumstances that surround his existence. That explains why we react to different circumstances the way we do. For the purpose of deeper understanding of the nature of circumstances confronting people and how they can rise above them, if not totally defeat them, I will torchlight certain areas posing serious challenges to human existence.

1. Health challenge: Health is wealth is a common phrase. Good health is the superstructure that holds other structures of life. For anyone to aspire to become anything in life, such one must be enjoying good health. Someone who is confined in an hospital bed cannot at the same time be yearning for any competitive position.

Anyone battling with a health challenge is limited in exploring the opportunities that life provides. Though health challenge varies in nature and duration, so many factors determine how soon the afflicted rise above it. To overcome health problems like obesity, cancer, diabetes, drug and alcohol abuse, heart disease, mental illness among many others, access to competent and experienced physicians will go a long way.

In a country where healthcare facilities are working, there is hope of the patient overcoming the health challenge, if it is not yet time for God to call the person home. However, in a country where healthcare services have collapsed, where top government officials embark on health tourism abroad, then average patients are subjected to unbearable circumstances.

Notwithstanding the gravity of a health challenge, do your best to seek for treatment then handover the rest to your creator – God. The scriptures affirm God’s position concerning our wellbeing in 3 John verse 2, it says, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” If you are a believer, be assured that the promise of good health and prosperity is for you.

2. Financial challenge: In this world of advanced technology, there’s hardly anything you can do without money. You begin to experience challenge in your finance when your income can no longer meet up with your expenses. This may be due to loss of job, inflation (when prices of goods and services increase without commensurate earning), accident, and general unstable income situations.

In this circumstance, it takes the ability to think out of the box and the help of God to overcome the challenges. At this point, you need to cut down your expenses to basic needs and prayerfully take steps to boost your income. This is why regardless of what you are doing, you must cultivate the habit of saving for the rainy day, so you will be able to fall back to this temporarily at the early stage of any financial challenge.

One thing you must not fail to do as a believer while the income is flowing, is to embrace the divine principle of giving. Give your best offering to God and pay your tithe regularly and correctly. In Luke 6:38, the Bible says, “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Similarly, your tithe is the gateway to more consistent financial favour. Be faithful in your tithe payment which is ten percent of your income. The blessings that follow tithing are clearly stated in Malachi 3:10-12.

3. Marital challenge: Marriage is the only institution that is directly set up by God. Genesis 2:18 says, “And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” Marriage is the union of a man and a woman becoming husband and wife for mutual benefits. In fact, the intention of God for creating the woman out of the ribs of the man was for oneness of mind and purpose. But devil manipulated Adam and Eve to sin and the original plan of God for them hit the rock.

Since the attack on marriage at the Garden of Eden till date, Satan has not relented in causing havoc in homes where peace ought to reign. The backlash of these attacks is now domesticated into all forms of abnormality contending with marriage. To compound the already tensed situation, many marriages are built on deceit and human calculations. Jesus is not the foundation of most marriages even though some of the couples may claim they heard from God; many were simply moved by infatuation and passion to fulfil selfish interests.

Consequently, issues that are not supposed to degenerate into conflict snowball into violence leading to hatred, sometimes inflicting bodily harm and even death. This is why there is no universally accepted approach to how marriage should be run in view of numerous cultural and religious differences. For one, so long as the actors are not sincere to each other, things will keep falling apart. Amos 3:3 asks, “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?”
