Job 1:1 – “There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.”
Job 1: 8 – “And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?”
When God recommended the man Job as a perfect and upright man, and that there was none like him in all the earth, He saw Himself, His attributes, and characteristics in him. Thus, came through him to confront the enemy. It was a confrontation between a perfect God and an imperfect enemy.
There is no one as perfect and as upright as God and He saw such uniqueness in a man like Job. This also implies that as perfect as Job was in his qualification, God would use him to combat the imperfect enemy (Satan). And then bring him to greater feats in Him in glory.
Job’s level and intimacy with God brought him to the kind of battle that he would fight, which is a direct battle with Satan. With this, God had a plan that was far better for Job than his present position as a very wealthy man, who was the greatest of all men of the east and in the land of Uz.
This also denotes that Job would have only been recognized and remembered in that location and be restricted to his earthly sphere at his time. Hence, he wouldn’t have been visible in God’s eternal plan and blessings. And God needed to showcase him and compensate him for His glory to the whole world and to generations forever.
It was in God’s heart and interest to promote and elevate Job beyond measure because of his uprightness and righteousness. But Job must pay a price. Thus, God had to come to a dialogue with the enemy as Job’s uprightness was part of His eternal plan and intent He wants to effect. God is enigmatic and full of marvels!
Job’s first success story, prosperity and greatness, was based on his strength and self-achievement, but he used it to glorify God and the LORD was indeed pleased with Job. This moved God to strategize a way to honour His Name in Job’s life and to bless him exceedingly. This time it has to be in His way without Job’s effort and contributions. And to record it all as a testimony concerning him forever.
Whatever you do that is divinely connected with God and His eternal interest, it goes beyond that. Know that He wants to use it to bring you to a place of fulfilment with Him and in Him forever. Be focused and sensitive (Luke 5:1-7).
Lesson one
It is needful for us to utilize every privilege given to us as ordained by God dutifully and diligently to glorify Him no matter how small. And we must allow Him to be in charge, breathe on them, break and sanctify us properly for the greater task and blessings ahead.
But you must know that your relationship and communion with Him in this regard will determine your next phase with Him in glory and eternally. Job was one whose conscience was awakened, he was conscious of himself and his family, thereby he observed true holiness and uprightness in his life and family in depths before the Lord.
He sanctified his family, rose up early in the morning and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for he said, it may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. He kept doing this and observing proper self-search in the fear of God.
Also, know that, as the heavens are watching your life and good deeds to reward you for good, the kingdom of darkness is also watching to plan your downfall. But remain with God in truth, in uprightness, in faithfulness, and steadfastness. A time will come, where you may never know when you will be tested.
The man Job afflicted but with a purpose
Job 1:7-12 – “And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?
Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.”
The Lord initiated the conversation in order to achieve a divine course and he permitted the enemy to afflict him. But had already made an invisible provision of grace to stand for Job. And the enemy went, and the man Job lost everything he had and all his children. But he never failed God with his words and response to the horrible events that took place in a jiffy (Job 1:13-22).
