Daniel 1:8-9 – “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.”

Daniel purposed in his heart not to defile himself with the king’s meat. This means he purposed not to follow the way of the world and its system in his time contrary to God’s will for his life. He purposed not to live in falsity and hypocrisy.

He purposed not to live in deception and not to live a sinful life. Rather, he purposed to live in purity and live a righteous life before God and man. And he purposed to live a life of total dedication and commitment unto God.

This also signifies that, when you are fully committed to God and His service in total obedience to Him, it is best not to defile yourself with the way of the world, but to live in holiness, truth and righteousness. And to avoid living in falsehood and not be enticed with the cares of this world and its pleasures.

When Daniel purposed in his heart not to defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank, the Lord God who alone sees the intentions and purpose of a man’s heart saw his heart and rewarded him greatly for good.

The Lord also made him an inspiration and a good example to emulate. This means that even the thoughts of your heart are being watched by God either unto reward for good or unto judgment. (Ps. 139:1-2).

As Christians, the Lord wants us to be pure within and without. And to have no blemish requires both inward purity and outward holiness.

If you purpose in your heart today to live in the fullness of God and not defile yourself with sin, and the world’s cares and delights, He will showcase you to generations for good and He will be your Eternal Reward.

God’s Loving Heart.
