Favour sets you above your contemporaries who are probably more qualified than you. On the other hand, wind, according to advanced learner’s dictionary is the air that moves quickly as a result of natural forces.
Wind of favour, to this end, is a kind of favour that is driven by divine forces. Amos 4:13 says it is God that created the wind. It is through prophecy into the wind that dry bones came alive (Ezekiel 37:9).
You can access good things or positions that many are struggling for when the wind of change is active in your favour; this brings about unusual breakthroughs in your life. From biblical accounts and personal experiences, when your time of favour comes, God would order the steps of your helpers to cross your path.
What Attracts Favour?
There are certain values in a person that can precipitate his receiving special favour outside the laid down criteria for such opportunity. For example, the decision to employ two people from a number of applicants jostling for two vacant positions in an organization, may have other requirements outside academic qualifications. These reasons may be predicated on the following character evaluation:
1. Fear of God: To fear God is to do to others what you want them to do to you. At this point you don’t cheat or play on other people’s intelligence to attract favour to yourself. The Bible says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” Proverbs 9:10. This is when you approach things happening around you with a deep sense of responsibility. You are mindful of the purpose of God for your life while dealing with issues that surround you.
2. Humility: This is the quality of having a modest view of one’s achievements. It is the ability to demonstrate simplicity in spite of recorded huge accomplishments. This quality is rare and could be noticed in the way someone talks or behaves at certain occasions.
3. Accountability: This is the quality of being accountable and responsible for given assignments. It is when you rightly steward whatever is entrusted into your hands and take responsibility for either its success or failure. Accountability exposes the strength and weakness of the one assigned with specific responsibility. Anyone who is conscious of accountability will not engage in fraudulent acts.
4. Loyalty: This is the quality of showing allegiance to a person or institution. It is having at heart the best interest of the one you have established a relationship with. The relationship can be creator-creature loyalty, master-servant loyalty, political leader-citizen loyalty, and so on. Specifically, godly loyalty is often rewarded. In 2 Kings 2:1-15, we find the story of Elisha demonstrating complete loyalty to Elijah. In spite of the barrage of discouragement from his fellow sons of the prophet, Elisha stood firm with Elijah, his spiritual master. For his consistent loyalty, Elisha received the double portion of divine power in the life of Elijah.
5. Contentment: This is a state of deriving happiness and satisfaction from what is available to you. It is a demonstration of gratitude for what has been made available to you, even when that is not your ultimate expectation. This attitude strengthens your faith even as you trust God for greater accomplishments. 1 Timothy 6:6 says, “godliness with contentment is great gain”.
Now, contentment should not be mistaken for cowardice or mediocrity rather, it is the acknowledgement that attainments in life come in stages. This gives room for natural growth and expansion.
6. Diligence in service: This is the act of carrying out your assignments efficiently, taking care of the little details. It is devoid of eye service in order to get superior approval. It is a demonstration of commitment and passion to your assigned responsibilities. Proverbs 22:29 says, “Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men.” Consistent hardwork can pave way for favour if you refuse to allow discouragement to set in. If you are diligent in the service you have been called into, your rising to the top will be consistent.
7. Perseverance: Sometimes, things may not work out as and at when expected; this does not necessarily mean that you are not doing what is right. Perseverance means adding patience to diligence. It is to continue to do what is right in spite of challenges or discouragement. When you put your best into whatever you are doing, you need to exercise patience to be rewarded at God’s best time for you.
There is no doubt that the waiting period in itself is a big challenge and could be traumatizing; nonetheless, getting the right result requires more patience. No wonder the Bible has this to say in 2 Peter 1:5-6, “But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness.”
Having observed the above character dispositions, return all glory to God when you begin to enjoy His favour which is beyond human understanding.
How Do You Know That You Are Favoured?
Life in this world is characterized by ups and downs. By human nature, it is easier to recognize someone who is enjoying favour than someone who is not. This is because being favoured among others will advertise you and bring you to limelight. Below are some key indicators that you are enjoying favour:
1. When you get with ease what others are struggling for: You know that you are being favoured when you access with less difficulty what others work hard for without success. For example, three Ph.D. students who submitted thesis to their supervisor had diligently worked hard at it in line with the guidelines. However, during the presentation, only one of them got the supervisor’s approval while the other two had to wait for another year.
