On the opening day of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries three-day convention, held recently to commemorate the church’s 35th anniversary, the founder and General Overseer, Pastor D.K. Olukoya, delivered a powerful message on the importance of spiritual power in the life of a believer. In his trademark fiery style, he emphasized that a believer without spiritual power is akin to a mighty elephant without its trunk, rendering it powerless and ineffective.
In his sermon titled “Understanding Spiritual Power” at the vast MFM Prayer City auditorium, Pastor Olukoya delved into the central importance of power in a believer’s life, drawing inspiration from the wisdom of Jesus Christ Himself. Citing Christ’s instruction for his disciples to remain in Jerusalem and wait until they received the Holy Spirit, he underscored the necessity of tapping into divine power in order to live out one’s full potential and mission in life.
The General Overseer made a sharp distinction between the two distinct sources of power in the spiritual realm: power from above, which flows directly from God, and power from below, which he described as the domain of demonic forces. Without hesitation or reservation, Pastor Olukoya declared that any power operating from below is inherently demonic and deceptive, while the true source of spiritual power for believers lies solely in the power of God from above.
The General Overseer stated: “The gateway to salvation is at the feet of the cross; the gateway to power is the baptism and anointing of the Holy Spirit. As a believer, if you don’t have power, you are a trunk-less elephant.
“Jesus had been on the earth for 3 years, he was now leaving the Apostles behind, he knew they will not be able to cope without power and he said, “don’t preach to anybody; just stay in that place until you receive that power.”
“There is power from above and there is power from below. No matter what, any power that is different from power from above is power from below. It is with that power you can trample upon serpents and scorpions. All the demonic power, fetish power, sorcerers, enchanters, magicians, witch doctors, their power is from below.”
According to Pastor Olukoya, the absence of spiritual power in the life of a believer is a catastrophic affliction, one that robs them of their divine potential and leaves them vulnerable to the spiritual onslaught of demonic forces. He pointed to the current generation as a powerful example of this tragic powerlessness, a generation that has become increasingly enmeshed in sin and apathy, even as Satan and his cohorts aggressively expand their influence and terrorize the faithful.
In Olukoya’s words, “This generation, more than any other, has demonstrated powerlessness in a way that is legendary, this generation of Christians is powerless. It is ironical that while Satan and his cohorts are doing everything to acquire power and unleash more terror to Christians at large, Christians themselves are getting more rooted in sin, backsliding, forsaking God, forsaking prayers, and thus, making us powerless.”
He asserted that without the bold presence of spirit-filled churches and fiery Christians, the mission of winning the world for Christ will remain out of reach. He emphasized that Christianity is a spiritual affair, and true power lies in being filled with the Spirit and backed by our divine Father.
He made it clear that power bestowed by the Father, is an inherent right of every Christian. With this divine power comes the liberating ability to stand strong against the oppressive forces of the kingdom of darkness. As Christians, he explained, we are called to live in the freedom and authority that God has granted us, manifesting His power in our lives and in the world around us.
The spirited man of God urged the congregation not to remain idle while the kingdom of darkness continues to spread its tentacles, becoming increasingly bold in its efforts to corrupt and enslave. Drawing inspiration from the biblical figure of Elijah, a man renowned for his spiritual power and unwavering resolve, Pastor Olukoya challenged his flock to raise their voices in prayer during the convention, imploring God to ignite His supernatural power within them. He emphasized that this divine power is not only the catalyst for personal transformation, but also the key to fulfilling one’s God-given destiny and purpose in this life.
