The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E. A. Adeboye unfolded the rewards associated with having rightful relationship with God through obedience and generous giving.
Adeboye gave this revelation during the July Divine Encounter programme titled, “Refuel Your Fire,” held at the Redemption City.
He explained that to refuel is to persist in the activities that have brought one success in the past. Just as Isaac, despite the famine in his land, continued to plant and sow in his fields, knowing that he would reap a bountiful harvest because God was with him.
He urged the congregation to continue investing in their relationship with God with confidence that their faithfulness and obedience will be rewarded.
To illustrate his point, the octogenarian referenced the biblical story of Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, who was sown into the world with the hope of being the “firstborn” of many more children to follow in his footsteps.
Adeboye highlighted a passage from the book of 2 Chronicles, where Solomon, the wisest of all men, made a great sacrifice of 1,000 burnt offerings at the Brazen altar. This act of sacrifice was rewarded by God, who appeared to Solomon that very night and offered to grant any request he desired.
He also shared a personal testimony of how his faith and obedience to God resulted in abundant blessings. Daddy G.O, who is known for his powerful messages and leadership, recounted how he was prompted by God to give generously, even when he had little to give.
In his testimony, he attested to the incredible blessings that have come his way as a result of his unwavering obedience to God’s voice, despite the challenges he faced early in his ministry. As a struggling pastor, he explained how he consistently heeded God’s voice, offering up the highest note in Nigeria in obedience, believing that the Lord would reward his faithfulness and obedience.
He said: “You are not a fool if you are trading with God. Nobody trades with God and suffers a loss. I tell you one simple true story because it happened to me.
“As at the time when 100 naira note was the biggest note in Nigeria, it was a lot of money God asked me some questions. Some of you must have heard the story before, am just reminding you because many of us see the glory, we don’t know the story. We need to know the story because God is not a respecter of men. Whatever he has done for me, he is ready to do it for you. He asked me “what kind of pastor do you want to be?” As a mathematician, I don’t answer a question until I know what it means and I said Lord I don’t understand.
“You want to be the greatest or the least, you want to be the best or the worst, and I said Father the best. You want to be the poorest or the richest? And I said have been poor, poor is not good. Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.
“So if I have to choose between poorest and richest it would rather be richest. Am not there yet but I will get there.”
“We were at a gathering sometime and it was offering time. It wasn’t at the Redeemed Christian church of God. They were about to take their offering and God asked me the same question he asked me before. “Son, what kind of pastor would you want to be?” Now, I was ready with the answer – the greatest, the best, the richest- then he said give me the largest note in your pocket then. I almost said get thee behind me Satan but I know his voice and I said yes Lord. I stammered a bit but I gave.
“Not long after that one, there was another meeting, and he repeated the same question I gave the same answer and he said double what you have been giving – doubled it. Not long after he asked me to triple it, I did and then He began to react. Everyday somebody will come and give me something.
“So I began to expect it. Then one day, I was in Benin for programme and I was about to sleep at 12 midnight and I said daddy I didn’t get your messenger today, nobody gave me anything today.
“After 12 midnight in Benin somebody knocked at the door and said, Pastor God said I should give you this. I said Lord thank you. I asked the fellow, how could you be out after midnight in Benin? He said I know the God who sent me to you will take care of me.
“I am not begging you and I am not asking you to believe me, am just saying prove it yourself, refuel, keep refueling you will get to a stage where you will say God is this not becoming too much?”
The cleric urged the congregation to adopt a lifestyle of holiness, emphasizing that obedience to God is the key to a prosperous life.
“I told my children in America recently the meaning of Holiness, it simply means whatever God says I do. That is all. And that is why it is not possible for you to be holy and die poor; that is why I am not a prosperity preacher, I am a holiness preacher just do what he asks you to do and leave the rest to him,” the man of God stated.
