The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has said that sanctification is embedded in the fruit of the Holy Spirit every genuinely born again Christian manifests.
The General Overseer declared this in his sermon on the third day of the church 72n annual convention held at the Redemption City of God, said sanctification is the crucial framework that supports the structure of faith.
Speaking on the titled “The Power of Sanctification,” Adeboye highlighted the importance of the fruits of the Holy Spirit over the gifts.
He emphasized that spiritual gifts, supernatural abilities, and acts of ministry are not enough to guarantee salvation if they are not accompanied by true sanctification. Citing Jesus warnings in Matthew 7:21, Adeboye reminded the congregation that possessing the gifts of the Holy Spirit without producing the fruits of righteousness would ultimately prove futile on the Day of Judgment.
He highlighted the essential yet often overlooked initial step of faith, “selection,” referencing Jesus’ teaching in John 6:44 that emphasize the crucial role of God’s divine drawing in leading individuals to salvation. He elucidated that after being drawn by the Father to the foot of the cross; the redeeming power of Christ’s blood cleanses sinners and grants them justification, marking the beginning of sanctification.
Pastor Adeboye underscored the transformative power of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, noting that the change in a person’s demeanor and lifestyle after their salvation is often a telltale sign of their spiritual renewal. Drawing from his own experience, he described how his newfound joy in Christ was immediately recognized by the church founder, Pa Josiah Akindayomi.
However, he explained that while it is relatively straightforward to gauge when someone has been baptized in the Holy Spirit, it is more challenging to quantify sanctification since it is primarily a matter of inner transformation and growth in holiness.
The General Overseer cautioned against rushing through sanctification in the pursuit of spiritual growth, analogizing that salvation serves as the solid foundation of a house, baptism in the Holy Spirit provides the roof, and sanctification is the crucial framework that supports the structure. He highlighted the unfortunate tendency among some believers to neglect the essential role of sanctification in their walk with Christ, likening it to a builder who skips the critical stage of constructing the walls.
The revered cleric underscored the supreme value of sanctification, emphasizing that it is in this state of deep intimacy and closeness with God that the true power of divinity can be harnessed. He suggested that the profound intimacy of sanctification allows believers to hear the inaudible and perceive the imperceptible, enabling them to achieve a level of spiritual wisdom and insight that is unattainable for those who do not seek sanctification.
He passionately proclaimed that Sanctification is the actual secret to divine power.
“When we talk about total sanctification, the power of sanctification, it is like crucifixion, when you crucify somebody, he dies completely. When you are sanctified, if anger is your problem, anger dies permanently, if Adultery is your weakness, it dies permanently, if lying is your problem, it dies permanently. Paul said in Galatians chapter 2:20 downwards, I am crucified in Christ, nevertheless I live, but the life I live now, am not even the one alive anymore. That is a way somebody can talk about sanctification,” he asserted.
